Elon Musk isn't fazed by a humanoid robot startup's newly announced collaboration with OpenAI. Musk is also making a humanoid robot, Optimus, through Tesla. "Bring it on," Musk posted in response to Figure AI cofounder Brett Adcock's Thursday announcement of a collaboration with OpenAI to develop AI-powered machines. The comment was a tacit acknowledgment that Figure and OpenAI are rivals to the Tesla CEO's own AI ambitions. Musk unveiled tech startup xAI last year, which debuted AI chatbot Grok last November.

Because anti-smoking groups aren’t just fighting the tobacco companies these days. They have fractured over tobacco harm reduction — the idea that people who cannot or will not quit smoking should be provided with alternatives, notably e-cigarettes, which deliver nicotine without burning tobacco. They argue that e-cigarettes will lead to a new generation addicted to nicotine, even if they are not smoking. It focuses largely, but not entirely, on reduced-risk nicotine products, a category that includes e-cigarettes, oral tobacco, and “heat not burn” products that warm up tobacco without burning it. There are no safe tobacco products; all fall along what’s called a continuum of risk.

Elon Musk has been bigging up Tesla as a robotics powerhouse, highlighting its humanoid bot, Optimus, as a gleaming example of its sophisticated technology. It's possible, however, that Musk is being a tad over-optimistic in his humanoid robot ambitions, particularly regarding its delivery timeline. In true Musk fashion, he made some grand claims about Optimus in the investors' call. It's the most sophisticated humanoid robot that's been developed anywhere in the world." He said, "It should be impossible for any centralized control to upload malware to a humanoid robot."

New York CNN —Elon Musk says he wants a significantly larger stake in Tesla than the one that already made him the richest person on the planet. Enough to be influential, but not so much that I can’t be overturned,” Musk wrote in a post on X. Musk and the Tesla board of directors were accused of breaching their fiduciary duties for waste and unjust enrichment. Musk on Monday said he and Tesla are waiting for ruling in the case before they agree to a new pay package. But Musk said a dual-class system at Tesla was a nonstarter, blaming a “post-IPO Delaware.” It’s unclear exactly what Musk meant by that.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who also owns the social network X (formerly known as Twitter), said Monday that he wants about 25% of voting control over his electric vehicle business. Now, Musk is angling for even more control over Tesla. Specifically, Musk wrote on Monday, "I am uncomfortable growing Tesla to be a leader in AI & robotics without having ~25% voting control. "Unless that is the case, I would prefer to build products outside of Tesla," the billionaire executive said on X. Tesla unveiled an early Optimus prototype at Tesla AI Day in September that year, and Musk said in a post around that event: "The point of AI Day is to show the immense depth & breadth of Tesla in AI, compute hardware & robotics."

One word we will all say (most likely at nauseum) in 2024 is Optimus (Tesla's bipedal robot). Optimus was toting a gun and fired multiple shots on the new Cybertruck to reveal its bulletproof capabilities. Musk said Optimus would use the same technology and software as Tesla's vehicles, such as the Autopilot system and the Full Self-Driving computer. One of the multiple benefits germane to Tesla stock would be having these Optimus bots assist on the Tesla production line. So I was skeptical I’d find a do-it-all carryall—until the Cambelbak’s Pivot Tote Pack restored my faith. It feels like I’d spent my entire adult lifetime seeking out the perfect tote, and now the Pivot has at last replaced them all. As a native Midwesterner, I once kept an entire day’s worth of stuff in my car, swapping out shoes and outfits as the hours ticked along. Now car-free in New York, I leave home carrying an entire day with me in a large bag. The Pivot Tote and I have covered enough miles together—sometimes 20,000 steps in a day—that it has far outlasted my previous commuting companions.
